Sprightly Margaret(74 years of age),resident of Alice Springs, who chose Chios as her destination, having read an early 20th century archeological survey, left this morning with her favourite frase.”I Just Love Greece”,adding “I’ll surely be back!”.Now that’s Spring Spirit!

Plenty of people on the move at Chios Rooms this last week.  A young Italian couple, chilling out after weeks of travelling round Turkey in their old van were followed by Mike Carter, freelance writer for The Observer. He’s taken a three months journey through Europe on his BMW bike from Norway via Eastern Europe to Mount Ararat and beyond. No easy ride, so I wasn’t surprised he wanted to spend a half day out of the saddle!

He wasn’t the only writer though, as we had Dimitrio from California with his wife and 15 month old daughter on a sabbatical to write short stories and Ian Harford from the UK, who’s just had his book, Digital nations in the making published on adult education and new technologies.

Maybe it’s time for us to run a creative writing course here next year. After all Homer, one of the greatest poets in the western world is reputed to have lived and taught up the road in Vrondadhos in the 8th century BC, so there must be something about the place!

A new voice from Chios island!

September 28, 2006

Welcome to my Chios Rooms blog. I’ve lived on Chios for over 20 years and it’s a great place. Busy but unspoilt with lots going on, it’s a very friendly island. You want the sea and beaches, or mountains and walking or places of interest or just want to chill out and watch the world go by? It’s all here!

Dina and I want to make your stay with us at Chios Rooms a time to remember. We can give you lots of help with where to go, the best restaurants, the quietist beaches - and the nearest internet cafe! It’s very close to Turkey too and handy for stopping off on the way there or back.

Lots of people pass through here – young and old, families with children, single people who would like to talk with others. And people from every nationality you can think of. We aim to make sure that everyone who comes here enjoys themselves, can meet others and relax.

So keep tuned to my blog and tell your friends about it! It is going to be full of events and stories and things I hear as so many people stay here with us, often with fascinating stories of their own.
